Confluence Strategies is Jon Goldin-Dubois, Roland Kuehn, and Pete Maysmith. Together, we have sixty years of experience as organizers and small business owners. Each of us grew up in Colorado and together we have run dozens of local and statewide campaigns in our career. A critical element of our work has been successful development work – we have raised millions of dollars through grant writing, major gifts, small donors, and events. Recent highlights include:

• A successful effort with Environment Colorado and Western Resource Advocates to stop Tri-State’s efforts to obtain permits and to construct a new coal-fired power plant in Eastern Colorado or Western Kansas. Confluence Strategies coordinated a campaign to encourage Tri-State Generation and Transmission to invest in energy efficiency and renewable energy generation and to forego new investments in coal-fired generation. Through the campaign, Confluence principals Jon Goldin-Dubois and Roland Kuehn worked closely with several nonprofit partners, including the Rocky Mountain Farmers Union, Independent Bankers and many local groups across Colorado, New Mexico and Wyoming to target Rural Electric Associations throughout the service territory.

• A broad, statewide coalition effort to support the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission’s (COGCC) updated oil and gas protections. Confluence principal Pete Maysmith worked with sportsmen, conservationists, and Front Range and West Slope supporters both leading up to and after the COGCC unanimously passed the updated rules in December, Campaign work included coalition building, earned and paid media, online organizing, and strategic planning.

• An on-going, cross-sector coalition campaign to identify new funding sources for increased state investment in energy efficiency and renewable energy generation projects. Confluence principal Jon Goldin-Dubois is working with the Colorado Center on Law and Policy and the Colorado Environmental Coalition and has brought together a coalition that includes low-income organizations, faith-based organizations, organized labor, agricultural interests, environmental groups and renewable energy businesses and associations to develop a legislative package that will be introduced in 2009 or 2010.
